Global capitalism has had disastrous
consequences for the natural environment, and for the poor of every
nation—largely because of the greed of those who already enjoy vast
wealth and privilege. Just look at what greed has done to our natural
resources like forests, rivers, clean air, and oceans!

Greed has been at the forefront
of the banking crisis and overall economic crisis we find ourselves
in today, and will likely continue to have far-reaching consequences
for years to come. Wall Street and the banking system got so greedy
that they lost control of their better judgment. The wave of people
losing their homes, jobs and livelihoods is a direct consequence of
that greed, and the effects are now rippling into out into the world
at large.

Can we make global capitalism,
moral capitalism? There’s no doubt that the power of free enterprise
has helped to release the genius of the human race by driving innovation
and rewarding people for the fruits of their labors. But the consequences
of a global capitalism with no checks and balances—in terms of environmental
consequences or the quality of human life—is increasingly unacceptable
to people of conscience from all walks of life.

Moral capitalism, or conscious
capitalism, is a goal that we need to work towards, through political
legislation, the way we run our businesses, and the way we spend our
cash.

“Don’t gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than
silver or gold…” -Bob Marley

“Man has been endowed with
reason, with the power to create, so that he can add to what he’s been
given. But up to now he hasn’t been a creator, only a destroyer. Forests
keep disappearing, rivers dry up, wildlife’s become extinct, the climate’s
ruined and the land grows poorer and uglier every day.” Anton Chekov
[Uncle Vanya, 1897]

“True words aren’t eloquent;
eloquent words aren’t true.
Wise men don’t need to prove their point;
men who need to prove their point aren’t wise.

The Master has no possessions.
The more he does for others,
the happier he is.
The more he gives to others,
the wealthier he is.

The Tao nourishes by not forcing.
By not dominating, the Master leads.”

Stephen Mitchell

‘It is greed to do all the talking but not want to listen at all’ -Democritus

Huge corporations profiting on fear and murder pilfer the Treasury only to use those billions to buy politicians and policy harmful to the public.
